On 15 May 2012, Forum Europe will host The 3rd Annual Brussels Carbon Capture and Storage Summit 2012, Central Brussels. The event will once again gather professionals from industry, EU policymakers and other stakeholders for a debate on the progress of CCS in Europe.

As European and global governments re-adjust their priorities in light of the continuing financial crises, this conference will analyse the impact that prolonged austerity will have on the roll-out of CCS in Europe. The European Commission's recent Energy Roadmap 2050 reiterates that CCS will play a critical role in the future of energy production in Europe, notably with gas, and that it will have to be "applied in the power sector from 2030 onwards in order to reach the decarbonisation targets". The conference will address how these ambitions can be achieved in the current economic and political climate.

- The state of play with regards to the financing of the demonstration projects in the current economic landscape
- Barriers that remain to the implementation of the CO2 Geological Storage Directive and the importance of the monitoring of geological storage sites in order to ensure safety and to achieve public acceptance
- Industrial applications for CCS post-demonstration, as well as future applications such as combining the technology with biomass
