79 GHz
International automotive 79 GHz frequency harmonisation initiative and worldwide operating vehicular radar frequency standardisation platform
The basic intention and objective of this Coordination Action is to establish and speed up the world wide harmonised frequency allocation for automotive radar systems in the frequency range 77 GHz to 81 GHz (79 GHz).
- Establishing a worldwide cooperating community network with common interests for a harmonised 79 GHz automotive radar frequency allocation and regulation
- Speeding up of the international rulemaking work in the important key-countries
- Generating worldwide awareness regarding the need for a globally available, harmonised automotive radar frequency band for mid and near range automotive applications
- Dissemination of the strategic research agenda that clearly states the 79 GHz band as the frequency allocation for automotive radar applications
- Creating more interest and commitment within the 79 GHz supplier chain to increase world-wide research effort in high-performance, low cost components and production methods
- Coordination and synchronization of the 79 GHz stakeholder activities (from 2nd Tier to OEM)
- Approaching the major administrations of the NAFTA (key-country USA), APT (key-country Japan) and BRICS (key-country China) regions and start or speed up the 79 GHz rulemaking process by appropriate meetings, conferences and activity coordination of both local interested parties in the respective country and the international 79 GHz platform group
- Negotiate the 79 GHz rules and conditions with the frequency authorities and incumbent frequency users by introducing dedicated experts in the respective fields. A joint collaboration of national experts within the country of concern and experts stemming from the 79 GHz platform group (associated or full members) is foreseen
- Initiate the 79 GHz rulemaking process in a couple of key-countries with the final target to spread the European 79 GHz frequency rules of the EC Decision to the world
- Discuss, elaborate and propose possible organisation forms that can manage and advocate the frequency interests of the automotive community
- Participation and cooperation with the main international frequency regulation bodies, organisations and administrations
