The BITS project continues the six past years of successful cooperation with China on ITS issues - especially those developed from the PEACE project - this time with focus on ITS implementation projects in the Chinese cities. The objective is to link organisations and industries in Europe and China through workshops, seminars and conferences in order to assess and define relevant innovative European ITS solutions and Chinese projects. BITS will organise two ITS events as part of its main activities:
BITS' general objective is to increase the use of European developed IT&C for the transport sector in China and in particular, the use of ITS. Consortia of European and Chinese ITS experts from the industry, research sector and public authorities will be created to encourage the industry cooperation on ITS applications through projects, joint ventures, and other initiatives.
Topics include:
Negotiations with the relevant authorities will pave the way for cooperation projects and an action plan for future collaboration will be implemented - including recommendations for new ITS research activities in China. The networking activities will create concrete business proposals and guidelines for possible research actions. Thus, BITS will fill the gap between the European ITS research results and practical experience with ITS implementation to converge at emerging business opportunities for those solutions in China. BITS will:

| CECO (China-EU Science and Technology Cooperation Promotion Office) | |
| County of North Jutland, Denmark | ![]() |
| Ideal Technologies, China |
Besides this consortium, there will be a range of European and Chinese ITS companies, authorities, universities, and organisations which will participate and help make BITS activities successful. The main goal for these participants will be to explore opportunities for setting up and doing business in China as well as selling know-how from European experiences.
A close cooperation has been created with MOST (Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology) for the dissemination on the Chinese side and with ITS organisations and research groups. Other Chinese authorities involved in the BITS activities include the Municipality Government of Beijing and Shanghai, the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Railways, the Ministry of Constructions, the Ministry of Information Industry, and the Ministry of Public Security. In addition, relevant Chinese authorities and organisations from different provinces will be invited to join the activities.
