Whether for work or leisure, in today's busy world, we spend a lot of time on the go. ITS technology is available and services are ready to facilitate much of our travel today and to make the information available while we are abroad.
The PRETIO project will test a set of multimedia services to validate the associated proposed business plans and ultimately develop an economically viable business case for multimedia ITS services over hybrid communications systems.
PRETIO services
PRETIO uses the benefit of a convergent world - mobile communication and broadcast are moving towards a common future. The DIAMOND project established the technical (a platform) and the commercial (a business model) feasibility for such services. PRETIO has developed draft business plans for a set of services to be validated in the market:
Basic travel information such as traffic conditions
- jams: 5 km between A and B via audio and TMC
- news such as politics, weather, stock information
Advanced travel information including better presentation and suggestions
- time loss of 15 minutes due to jam ahead
- suggesting a detour of 10 minutes due to jam ahead
Mobile travel companion
- trip planning and accompanying
- incident management (e.g. changes or connection missed)
Travel information such as tourist and traveller information
- accomodation such as hotels or restaurants
- entertainment such as cinema or theatres
- culture such as churches or museums
Information quasi on demand*
*The information first needs to be downloaded, which is normally done automatically when the PRETIO terminal is switched on.
The PRETIO vision is to provide travellers in Europe with a new generation of multimedia/multi-modal traffic, traveller and tourist information as well as entertainment in their preferred language.
