TMC Forum

Supporting the global market for TMC services
Real-time traffic and travel information can contribute greatly to increasing both road safety and efficiency. By warning drivers of congestion and accidents and allowing them to find alternative routes, traffic information applications improve traffic flow and help drivers avoid potentially dangerous situations.
The TMC Forum is the focal point and workshop of the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) community. TMC is a specific application of the FM Radio Data System used for broadcasting real-time traffic and weather information. Traffic information is received silently and decoded by a TMC-equipped car radio or navigation system.
The TMC Forum aims to support the implementation, operation and market development of TMC products and services worldwide. A series of activities are being carried out with this goal in mind, including the definition of a roadmap for TMC enhancements and future development, the definition and application of procedures for location table certification, development of technical solutions to use cases in TMC implementation, location referencing for new TMC features, definition of agreed levels of service-receiver TMC implementation and harmonisation and development and elaboration of proposals for standards.
The TMC Forum, along with the TPEG Forum, also runs the Road Traffic Information Group.
