Network of National ITS Associations

Progressing ITS implementation in Europe and beyond

National – and regional – ITS associations have been established in many countries in order to support the increasingly rapid deployment of ITS. They are usually non-profit associations with public and private members, coordinating activities on a national scale.

The national ITS associations typically provide support and encouragement for national (as well as regional and local) ITS cooperation and consensus building, assist in the creation of a national ITS strategy, sponsor or provide ITS training programmes, exchange information and disseminate R&D results. Generally speaking, all ITS national associations share the same goals of progressing and promoting ITS implementation as well as providing a focal point for the ITS activities undertaken by their members.

With the establishment in 2004 of the Network of National ITS Associations, ERTICO aims to assist the national associations in their pursuit of these goals and provide a new impetus to the promotion and support of national ITS organisations both in Europe and across the world. The Network also allows innovative, small and medium-sized enterprises that are not represented as ERTICO shareholders to contribute at the European level. By ensuring that key information concerning the evolution of ITS in Europe is transmitted to all actors at the local and national level, the Network supports the promotion of ITS from the ground up.

Objectives

• Exchange information and agree on the appropriate content of future regional, national and EU programmes.
• Exploit synergies in current regional, national and EU projects.
• Act as a channel for local SME participation in EU programmes.
• Cooperate to establish an appropriate European ITS Policy.
• Collaborate on ITS training programmes.
