EOS
Building a European security partnership
The European Organization for Security (EOS) is an initiative aiming to create an integrated view and approach to achieving justice, freedom and security in Europe.
EOS is an organisation open to private and public non-governmental stakeholders engaged in civil security (companies, industry associations and research centres). Its formation is a direct result of the recommendations made by the European Security Research Advisory Board (ESRAB), which advocated a close private/public interaction in security research under the EC’s 7th Research Framework Programme and the findings of the European Security Partnership for the 21st Century (ESP21). Twelve companies – including ERTICO - ITS Europe – signed the incorporation documents. The creation-process of EOS was announced in the presence of high representatives from the European Commission at the second European Security Research Conference in late March 2007 in Berlin. EOS aims to facilitate cooperation between European stakeholders to develop and implement security solutions and services, and focus resources on priority areas for European security: border control, the fight against terrorism and organised crime, and civilian emergency and critical infrastructure protection – including service networks, transport, finance and government. Its objectives have been founded on the general EU political objectives for security issues, based on the EC’s Lisbon Agenda, the 2004 Hague Programme and the 2005 EU Counterterrorism Strategy.
ERTICO – ITS Europe is actively involved in the work related to securing Europe’s transport infrastructure, looking into how ITS can contribute to improving the security of mobility of passengers and goods.
