Details of London IP PReVENT exhibitions announced!

The EC-supported Integrated Project PReVENT – in which ERTICO is a participant - has announced details of the experimental vehicles that will be on show at the ITS World Congress in London.  IP PReVENT’s London vehicles are equipped with preventive and active safety functions beyond the state-of-the-art. IP PReVENT develops and demonstrates preventive and active safety applications using sensors, maps and communication devices.

On display at the European Commission main stand (E24/F24) will be the experimental Volvo Truck, which integrates a large number of safety features developed in EU-funded projects such as AIDE, EASIS, GST and IP PReVENT, including Active Lane Keeping Support, Collision Mitigation by Braking, Start Inhibit, Curve Speed Warning and Lane Change Assistance.

The European Commission Car Corner (A36) will feature the Fiat Stilo demonstration car developed by Centro Ricerche Fiat within IP PReVENT. It will demonstrate the preventive and active safety functions investigated in the LATERAL SAFE and APALACI subprojects and features lateral and rear monitoring systems, lane change assistant, lateral Collision warning, collision mitigation and pre-cash functionalities

On the Excel Boulevard, the IP PReVENT INTERSAFE Volkswagen Phaeton will demonstrate how advanced object detection and high precision localisation can enhance safety at intersections. The experimental vehicle is fitted with video sensors, laser scanners, communication devices and high precision maps.
When approaching a crossing, the video and laserscanners recognise sign posts or other fixed attributes in order to derive the position with a 10 cm precision. The laser scanners monitor the surroundings and classify any moving objects such as other vehicles, bikes and pedestrians, allowing timely warning of dangerous situations. All these systems are integrated in the car and ready for extensive validation.

Also on the Excel Boulevard will be the IP PReVENT INSAFES Volvo S80, which is equipped with HMI concepts for many of the applications developed within INSAFES and IP PReVENT. Different HMI concepts will be demonstrated for lane departure warning, collision warning, rear end monitoring, Blind spot indication with lane change assist, curve overspeed warning and all around monitoring.

This host of cutting-edge experimental vehicles should provide plenty of interest for anyone with an interest in eSafety in-vehicle technologies.
