eCall Driving Group identifies action issues
Date: 13 September 2005
The first joint meeting of the eSafety Forum’s eCall Driving Group (DG) “champions” was held in Brussels 9 September. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the status-of-work within the Driving Group’s different sub-working groups and identify issues that require an action from the steering group in order to move forward.
The champions, which represent the different stakeholders in eCall, were named as a result of the last meeting of the eCall Driving Group which took place at ERTICO on 7 July. The goal of this meeting was to define tasks and allocate responsibility for 2005’s eCall activities. As a consequence, different sub-working groups where formed representing the different stakeholders in eCall and the champions were appointed to coordinate activities on the basis of their expertise within the different fields.
Performance criteria
As the different champions reported their status-of-work at the 9 September meeting, one additional issue regarding the performance criteria of the eCall service was identified. Issues such as the eCall generator in the vehicle, transmission of both voice and data through the mobile network as well as the PSAP (public service answering point) operator’s procedures need to be clarified in order for the different manufacturers to develop the eCall service. Moreover, performance criteria are also needed for a certification process of eCall.
The next DG eCall steering group meeting has been planned for 14 October at ERTICO with the same objective as this first meeting. In the meantime, the different sub-working groups are working on a draft clarification paper on the issues related to the different DG eCall stakeholders.
