eCall Driving Group in ETSI_MSG meeting
Date: 12 May 2005
A 3-4 May meeting at ETSI headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France focussed on the transport protocol solution for the emergency call (eCall). Representatives from the EC-supported, ERTICO-coordinated GST RESCUE project also took part in the meeting.
Following the roadmap agreed by Member States and Industry towards a full implementation of eCall in all new vehicles from September 2005, the ETSI_MSG (European Telecommunication Standardisation Institute – Mobile Standards Group) technical working group has been requested to look at the different technologies related to the transport protocol that should be standardised for transmitting in-vehicle voice and data to the PSAP (public service answering point).
As a result of the 3-4 May meeting, the working group - in cooperation with the eCall Driving Group and the European Commission - has agreed on the requirements and framework for ETSI_MSG’s standardisation. The group also noted that the actual study on the different technical solutions will be carried out in the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). Details concerning the next 3GPP meeting are to be confirmed, but ETSI_MSG has asked the different key stakeholders suggesting different transport protocols to participate in the meeting to present their solutions.
3GPP will then report back to the ETSI_MSG, which will meet 10-11 October to review the solutions suggested by 3GPP.
