ERTICO News: 6th European ITS Congress a success!

The 6th European Congress and Exhibition on ITS attracts around 1300 people from all over Europe.
 
Greeted by the colossal robot, Robovox, over 1300 people, representing countries from all over Europe walked through the doors of the Aalborg Kongres & Kultur Centre in Aalborg, Denmark for the 6th European Congress and Exhibition on ITS. The event took place from 18-20 June 2007 and was a big success with visitors, delegates and exhibitors alike. All were treated to a high-tech showcase of the very latest in ITS technology.

The Congress proved to be another great opportunity for ERTICO – ITS Europe Partners, of which around 70 participated, to share knowledge and exhibit innovative ITS products and services. Once again, the ERTICO stand’s ‘signposts’ pointing the way to each ERTICO Partner stand, and acted as a meeting-point and networking hub for Partners and non-Partners alike.
 
The new ERTICO Membership video was also premiered at the stand, offering testimony from over 20 ERTICO Partner representatives who were filmed at last year’s London World ITS Congress. A TMC animation was also on display.
 
The Exhibition space was busy and buzzing throughout the Congress as visitors - young and old - came to see the latest technology on display. The various Sessions were well attended and offered delegates insight into the latest ideas and innovations in ITS.

A real networking opportunity!
The new Business-to-Business Meetings offered Congress delegates real one-on-one face time, and one can only imagine that whatever was discussed then was finalised during the impressive Social events held in the evenings. When else to better put to rest a full-day’s work than while browsing the colourful corridors of the North Jutland Museum of Art or throwing axes in the ancient forest of Rold.
 
Chairman of the North Jutland Region, Orla Hav, opened the Congress by welcoming all to Aalborg and stressing a week of networking possibilities. Given the great weather, wonderful location and warm hospitality, spirits were high and connections were made.

Henning Christiansen, Director for the Danish Road Directorate emphasised that ITS is now more than ever on the agenda in Denmark and that the Danish Road Directorate has established a unit for ITS.

ERTICO’s Chairman, Monica Sundström thanked the hosts and organisers, the European Commission for its support and reiterated the need for strong cooperation to push ITS forward in solving the mobility challenges facing Europe.

Delegates left Aalborg looking forward to meeting again in Geneva next year from 4-6 June for the 7th European Congress and Exhibition.
