eSafety Support – Working to save lives
Date: 16 January 2006
.gif) The EC-funded eSafety Support project officially started up in January 2006. Replacing the eScope project, it will assist the eSafety initiative that was initiated in support of the Commission White Paper "European Transport Policy for 2010: Time to Decide". One of the key objectives of this paper is to halve the number of road fatalities by 2010.
eSafety brings together the European Commission, industry, public authorities and other stakeholders with the aim of accelerating the development, deployment and use of Intelligent Integrated Safety Systems. The aim is to increase road safety and reduce the number of accidents on Europe's roads
eSafety Support stimulates and monitors the activities, progress and results generated by the eSafety initiative by offering assistance to the eSafety Forum and its Working Groups and disseminating results to all stakeholders. Furthermore, eSafety Support will communicate more broadly – informing the general public that eSafety can save their lives by decreasing the driver’s workload and provide him or her with the necessary support in hazardous situations.
A new website has been designed for the launch of eSafety Support, incorporating all the information that was previously available on the eScope website and more. The new structure allows for easy navigation within six main menus:
eSafety activities Learn about eSafety Systems News eSafety Events Media Centre Links
For the knowledgeable eSafety stakeholder the category “eSafety activities” will be the most useful. It offers information on the eSafety Forum, its Plenaries, Steering Group meetings and Working Groups, as well as information on eCall and eSafety reports and studies. For the newcomers and interested audience outside the transport sector, the “Learn about eSafety Systems” category gives an overview of existing eSafety applications and presents videos, images and brochures on the topic of eSafety.
