General News: ITS UK annual Awards for Excellence announced

Awards given to acknowledge area wide schemes and outstanding contributions to ITS.
Following a very close selection from the excellent shortlist, Steven Norris, President of ITS United Kingdom and Chair of the 2007/08 ITS United Kingdom Awards for Excellence judging panel, is pleased to announce that three awards have been given in the following categories:
Area Wide Schemes 1. The Kent Fasttrack bus information system was chosen for its pioneering approach to local urban regeneration using innovative technology to completely overturn passenger perception and experience of bus transport.
2. The Transport for London iBus project which was designed and implemented in response to the growth in the number of buses in service in London. iBus gives accurate vehicle location information enabling on-board real time passenger information and more effective service control, as well as providing a more reliable expandable radio system and platform for future development.
Outstanding Contribution 3. Dr John Miles of Ankerbold for his contribution, during a career of over 30 years, to the development and outreach of ITS.
ITS United Kingdom announced its new annual awards in March 2006. The judging panel was chaired by ITS United Kingdom President and former Transport Minister, Steven Norris. The other panel members included:

- Rufus Barnes, London Travel Watch
- Richard Harris, WSP Group
- Kevin Borras, hb3 Media
- Dr Anil Namdeo, University of Leeds
- Tony Ciaburro, Essex County Council
The awards will be handed out by Mr Norris during the ITS United Kingdom President’s Dinner in London on 26 March 2008.
