General News: ITS/GIS Business Day in Budapest

27 September 2007 ITS Hungary event focuses on collaboration between intelligent traffic systems and geographic information systems.
The first full-day ITS/GIS Business Day entitled “Interfaces between Intelligent Traffic Systems and Geographic Information Systems” was held in Budapest, Hungary on 27 September 2007. The meeting co-organised by ERTICO - ITS Europe-hosted Network of National ITS Associations member ITS Hungary and Hungis Foundation, a local organisation active in geographic information systems, sought to find answers to questions concerning the location of interfacing spots between, and the possible areas and aspects of synergetic collaboration of, the two disciplines.
The key-note speeches highlighted the role of ITS in transport polity, the traffic management potentials offered by GIS and ITS opportunities in European projects (i.e. EC-supported CONNECT project - in which ERTICO is a participant - and EASYWAY).
Panel topics included the following: Navigation databases; Achievements of the Euro-Regional project - CONNECT and Implemented Applications. The implemented applications presented to the participants included the system of the Municipal Traffic Information Service (FŐVINFORM), the current development of road databases, fleet monitoring applications and the BKV public transport vehicle monitoring system, as well as options for future application.
The event was coloured by a Business Show with eight exhibitors displaying their most exciting GIS applications.
The Business Day was a success attracting as many as 150 professionals from the areas of GIS and ITS.
