General News: Register to see how Europe works!

Date: 19 March 2008

First European think tank on cooperative systems takes place in Amsterdam.

The first European think tank on cooperative systems, How Europe Works, will take place from 31 March-1 April 2008 along side Intertraffic in Amsterdam. This think tank, organised and conceived by H3B Media and ERTICO – ITS Europe, will look at the far-reaching CVIS project from policy, strategy, technology, finance, innovation, implementation, integration and interoperability perspectives. Interactive, thought-provoking and largely Powerpoint-free presentations, open forums and pertinent discussions are the order of the day (or two half days), with speakers such as EC - DG INFSO’s Juhani Jääskeläinen, Masao Fukushima from Nissan, Volvo’s Mats Rosenquist and Annika Strömdahl and the Dutch Ministry of Transport’s Martin van Gelderen.

Subjects to be covered include:

  • How cooperative systems can create a unified technical solution allowing all vehicles and infrastructure elements to communicate with each other in a continuous and transparent way using a variety of media and with enhanced localisation;
  • How cooperative systems will enable a wide range of potential cooperative applications and services to run on an open application framework in the vehicle and roadside equipment;
  • How cooperative systems is to define and validate an open architecture and system concept for a number of cooperative system applications, and develop common core components to support cooperation models in real-life applications and services for drivers, operators, industry and other key stakeholders; and finally
  • How cooperative systems will address issues such as user acceptance, data privacy and security, system openness and interoperability, risk and liability, public policy needs, cost/benefit and business models and roll-out plans for implementation.
