General News: TISA to be launched 21 November 2007
Date: 02 November 2007
New non-profit Traveller Information Services Association aims to synergise and add market-driven impetus to traffic information technologies.
The new Traveller Information Services Association (TISA) will hold its inaugural General Assembly on 21 November 2007 at Deutsche Telekom AG in Berlin, Germany. The newly established not-for-profit company (ASBL under Belgian law) will ensure an international framework for market-driven, coordinated, proactive implementation of traffic and travel information services and products based on existing standards such as RDS-TMC and TPEG. It will also work towards the development of future standards and services.
TISA will take over the activities undertaken by the TMC Forum, the TPEG Forum and the German Mobile.Info project. It will also support standards that provide elements or framework for services and products covering traffic and travel information, including roads and public transport information and related information needs such as points of interest, weather and environmental information.
Following the 21 November launch event, TISA’s first activities will be a series of working meetings to organise its activities.
TISA’s secretariat will hosted by ERTICO – ITS Europe, although it will be financially independent, with a small joining fee and an annual membership fee initially set at 4200 Euros per member company. James Burgess of ERTICO will serve as TISA Coordinator.
