IP PReVENT participation
Date: 27 April 2005
The EC-supported, ERTICO-coordinated PReVENT Integrated Project (IP) has been increasingly active in subproject activities as well as progressing the activities of its second phase.
APROSYS cooperation In the framework of the EUCAR's Integrated Safety Programme, it is intended to establish a link between the IPs APROSYS – which deals with improving passive safety - and PReVENT. To start this cooperation, APROSYS SP6 "Intelligent Safety Systems" and IP PReVENT organised a common workshop 15-16 March 2005 at the Fraunhofer Institute for Durability in Darmstadt, Germany.
The workshop’s main goal was to exchange information and coordinate several activities on the basics for front and side pre-crash protection systems. It focused on accidentology (relevant scenarios) for front and side crashes, front and side pre-crash protection system, concepts system architecture for front and side pre-crash systems, sensing system and actuator system requirement testing concepts. Members of the IP PReVENT management as well as subprojects APALACI, COMPOSE and UseRCams attended the meeting. For more information about IP APROSYS, visit www.aprosys.com
Cooperative Systems outlook In addition, IP PReVENT participated in the third Workshop on Driver Assistance Systems which took place in Walting, Germany 6-8 April. The Workshop was organised by the University of Karlsruhe and Audi.
Presentations focused on driver assistance systems, sensors and data fusion and customer acceptance. A paper on foresighted driving was presented, as an outlook on Cooperative Systems. The use of foresighted information from maps and vehicle communication enables an electronic horizon that helps the driver to drive safely and easily adapt to traffic. IP PReVENT presented a paper which highlighted the activities of its WILLWARN and MAPS&ADAS subprojects, as well as the lessons learned from the work done in parallel in the German INVENT project.
IP PReVENT results IP PReVENT is now approaching its second phase. To organise its future Phase 2 work, the IP PReVENT coordination held an Open Workshop in Brussels on 23 February to present the IP’s latest results and call for participation to the second phase of the project. The event welcomed more than 110 participants - of which more than 50% were not IP PReVENT consortium members!
The Workshop featured results from the IP PReVENT subprojects’ requirements phase. A consolidated document will identify the commonalities between different applications using similar sensors. The second part of the Workshop solicitated innovative ideas for Phase 2 of the project. The call for proposals is now closed, and IP PRevENT has started the negotiation phase for those selected. The expected start of Phase 2 projects is seen for September.
