General News: New chairman at ITS United Kingdom
Date: 31 May 2007
Professor Eric Sampson elected as new chair for ITS United Kingdom.
ITS United Kingdom, member of the ERTICO - ITS Europe-hosted Network of National ITS Associations, held its Annual General Meeting in May 2007 and elected new officers to serve for the 2007-2008 period. Professor Mike McDonald of Southampton University, who has led the society for the last two years, stepped down on the completion of his agreed term. Professor Eric Sampson of the University of Newcastle was elected in his place.
Eric recently retired from the ERTICO Partner Department for Transport (DfT), where he headed the Transport Technology and Standards Division. He was instrumental in setting up ITS United Kingdom in 1992, one of the first national ITS associations to be set-up in Europe. He has also been associated with the ITS World Congresses since the first one was held in Paris in 1994. DfT was also a major supporter of the World Congress in London in 2006.
Eric noted, “I am delighted that I have this opportunity to help with the development of UK transport and transport policies. I thank the ITS United Kingdom members for their support and hope that I can achieve as much in my term of office as Mike did during his.”
