Partner News: HAVEit – EU follow-up project to drive-by-wire vehicles by SPARC
Date: 26 June 2008
The closing event of the EU project SPARC at the automotive test venue in Papenburg, Germany in July 2007 was at the same time the initial spark for the follow-up project HAVEit. Since February 2008 the consortium, consisting of Continental Automotive, Volkswagen, Volvo, the DLR and several research institutions, has worked on bundling further vehicle intelligence in order to enhance the safety of future drive-by-wire vehicles.
In SPARC, the technology transmitting the driver’s input onto the road via the use of smart sensors and actuators was in the foreground. In HAVEit the handling of the vehicle is to be adapted to a large extent by higher intelligence to make the driving task less strenuous for the driver. The focus is on using technology already implemented in modern vehicles as far as possible. Value is added by the intelligent link-up of the modern sensors.
