Partner News: National e-ticketing system in the Netherlands

Thales, ITS France and TLS organise 18-19 October 2007 Dutch e-ticketing technical visit.

ERTICO – ITS Europe Partner Thales, Network of National ITS Associations member ITS France, together with TLS, is organising a technical visit in the Netherlands on 18-19 October 2007 which showcases an e-ticketing system. 

After a long process that lasted more than 15 years, the five largest public transport operators in the Netherlands created a joint venture – the Trans Link System (TLS) - to build a nationwide e-ticketing system. The Netherlands is the first country to implement an e-ticketing system on a national scale in an overall context of complex fare structures. 

Overview and demo
To open the event, the principal actors involved in the project will provide an overview, as well as a report on the technical aspects, marketing policies and fare structures for the deployment and implementation of the system.

The first day of the technical visit will take place at the TLS headquarters in Amersfoort, Netherlands and include a presentation of the back office and card production. The second day will be a demonstration of the OV ‘chipkaart’ starting with its purchase from a ticket vending machine in the Amsterdam metro station and include actual use of the transport card and test of the fare systems on various means of transport to Rotterdam and back.
