Powerful presence for IP PReVENT

Date: 26 May 2005

The EC-supported PReVENT Integrated Project (IP) – in which ERTICO is a participant – has spread the news of its activities and results in a number of events this past spring and plans more dissemination activities this summer.

In March, the project took part in the AMAA (Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications) conference in Berlin. Several early versions of IP PReVENT demonstrator vehicles were available at the pre-conference demo day to show active and preventive safety applications. Participants were given the chance to experience future safety systems such as Pre-Crash, Lane Keeping, Emergency Braking and others. Most of these systems are under development within IP PReVENT activities for a better integration and use of the information coming from different sensors equipped on the vehicle. The conference programme also included a special session dedicated to the IP PReVENT subproject INTERSAFE and its new approach for intersection safety. In addition, Aris Polychronopoulos of the IP PReVENT subproject SAFELANE presented its system design and Bosch  contibuted to the poster session with an entry "Reducing Uncertainties In Precrash-Sensing With Range Sensor Measurements".

Future activities
Over the next months, IP PReVENT will present its most recent results on IP requirements and IP specifications including the Hannover ITS Congress and the IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium (IV) in Las Vegas in the beginning of June. During these two events, 14 technical papers, two special sessions and more than 20 presentations of IP PReVENT will be given by project participants. Special sessions will focus on general issues related to preventive safety and integration of applications towards a common vision, and technical sessions will present the work performed for the development of different preventive safety application fields. In addition, IP PReVENT will display its posters and distribute its newly designed flyers.

After the summer, PReVENT plans to take part in the IEEE ITSC in Vienna in September and the ITS World Congress in San Francisco in November.
