Project News: ADASIS Forum discusses new ADAS Interface Specifications
Date: 26 June 2008
More than 35 participants attended the meeting, which was hosted by FORD. Dr Jürgen Wesemann, Manager of Vehicle Technologies & Materials at FORD Research and Advanced Engineering, welcomed participants whilst Mr Christian Ress of FORD Research and Advanced Engineering and ADASIS Forum Chairman, gave an introduction to ADASIS. An overview of ADASIS Forum activities followed, delivered by ADASIS Forum Coordinator Vincent Blervaque of ERTICO – ITS Europe. A draft version of the ADAS Interface Specifications, ADASIS v2 was presented by Working Group 2 leader Alexander Bracht from Daimler, followed by an open discussion with participants.
ADASIS v2 is a key evolutionary step in the development and in the implementation of ADAS Interface Specifications, and is based on research results from the EC-cofunded PReVENT IP MAPS&ADAS project. The MAPS & ADAS project looked at the use of digital maps by Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) by means of a standardised interface to improve road safety.
Another important issue featuring high on the agenda of the meeting was a report on the standardisation activities, presented by Working Group 4 Leader Michael Sena. A discussion with Members on the necessary steps towards standardisation followed. The last session was moderated by Bob Denaro from NAVTEQ and focussed on deployment barriers for map-based and map-enhanced Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Overall, the highly interactive and insightful sessions contributed to the success of the General Assembly.
