Project News: SIMBA South Africa National Event

12-13 July 2007 Pretoria event to strengthen EU-South Africa cooperation on transport.
The ERTICO – ITS Europe-coordinated SIMBA project will hold a South Africa National Event at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria following the 26th Southern African Transport Conference (SATC 2007). The event will discuss the results from the Priority Workshop held in December 2006 in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
ITS topics to be covered during the event include public transport, traffic monitoring and management, city planning, environment and the 2010 World Cup. Automotive topics to be discussed include recycling processes, flex fuel and collision avoidance. Infrastructure topics include safety, security, maintenance, congestion and materials.
ERTICO CEO Arnold van Zyl will offer opening and concluding remarks for the two-day event, while ERTICO Partner ACEA and ITS South Africa, member of the ERTICO-hosted Network of National ITS Associations, will each give presentations. There will also be a session dedicated to demonstrating and discussing RDS-TMC.
Specific aims of the event include the creation of joint EU-South Africa expert working groups, project proposals and joint road transport research roadmaps.
