Project News: Successful FeedMAP User forum workshop

Date: 16 April 2008

On 18 March 2008, the EC-supported and ERTICO-coordinated FeedMAP project, which studies the commercial and technical feasibility of map deviation feedback, successfully presented its latest results in Brussels.

Attended by around 30 technical and business experts from the European ITS community, the workshop focused on the current specifications of map updating and map deviation feedback and first test sites results. The meeting was also open to companies outside the project consortium. After being given some insight into the project and specifications of the FeedMAP/ActMAP framewok and its test environments, participants shared their ideas and expertise on the lessons learned from the implementation phase and their impact on the final version of the FeedMAP specifications.

Up-to-date data is essential for current and future navigation and map-based Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) applications. Today, digital maps are generally stored on DVDs or hard disks, with periodic updates only available on replacement disks. However, new mechanisms for updating maps have been investigated and should reach the market within a few years.

FeedMAP has developed a framework that detects map anomalies, when any car equipped with a digital map happens to come across a faulty map attribute, and quickly updates maps in other vehicles using a standardised mechanism developed in the ActMAP project.

For more information about the project, please contact Dr Maxime Flament, Head of Safety & Security at ERTICO – ITS Europe.
