Project News: TMC Demonstration 1st tests successful!
Date: 25 September 2007
Digital broadcasting of traffic information in Shanghai is a success.
On 10-14 September 2007, European experts from ERTICO Partner Bosch/Blaupunkt, GEWI and MIB together with their Chinese partners SMTIC (Shanghai Municipal Transportation Information Centre), OPG (Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group), SCCTPI (Shanghai City Comprehensive Transportation Planning Institute) and Qiangsheng Taxi Co. successfully tested the use of Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) to deliver traffic information for the City of Shanghai using the Traffic Message Channel (TMC).
The tests established an end-to-end chain for the creation of DAB-TMC messages for the City of Shanghai (collection, aggregation and broadcast). The successful results of the tests included:
- Acquiring sources of traffic information for the city of Shanghai (loop/sensor data, taxi FCD, police incidents)
- Installing TIC editor software at SMTIC and SCCTPI
- Installing TIC server at SMTIC and communication with OPG
- Establishing a link between SCCTPI TIC Editor and SMTIC TIC Server
- Sending and receiving traffic messages from SMTIC TIC Server to OPG
- Matching the taxi FCD (Floating Car Data) location referencing system with the TMC location codes (SCCTPI)
- Setting up a DAB-TMC broadcast service
- Testing DAB-TMC broadcasting of traffic messages
- Receiving and recording broadcast traffic messages
