Project News: Workshop on Satellite Navigation

Date: 06 September 2007

4 October 2007 European GNSS Supervisory Authority international workshop takes place in Brussels.

With the advent of location based services (LBS) and navigation and positioning applications, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) have become an essential infrastructure of the modern society. The Galileo project aims at the development of a high performance and reliable commercially-oriented navigation system that will be able to interoperate with other GNSS systems, such as GPS. This ambitious objective has raised several technical challenges that have stimulated research activity within different projects under the auspices of the Galileo Joint Undertaking (GJU) and the European GNSS Supervisory Authority (GSA). In this context, the EU FP6 GAS GAMMA project is developing an assisted Galileo/GPS/EGNOS satellite receiver prototype and a multi channel Galileo/GPS/EGNOS satellite generator to evaluate receiver performance.

Enhanced precision and integrity signals open the path for the development of a new class of services. From the perspective, the International Workshop on Satellite Navigation Mass-Market Receivers and Applications aims at providing a forum for the presentation of recent findings and the discussion of future developments and expectations from a business and marketing point of view. Therefore, the aim of the workshop is to stimulate and guide the development of future mass-market receivers, with special attention to their applications.

To make the workshop an interesting event with maximum efficiency, the organizers have invited representatives of major European institutions and industries to give their presentations. The presentations will focus on the two application areas which are expected to have major importance for GNSS and the Galileo area: Location-Based Services (LBS) and Mobility and Transport.

Afterwards, these experts will be available for an open discussion among all participants of the workshop.

ERTICO – ITS Europe Project Manager Gary Bridgeman, on behalf of the AGILE Project, in which ERTICO is a participant, will speak on the business aspects of satellite navigation in the near future.

All interested stakeholders are invited to participate. But please be aware that the number of participants is limited to 20 people. Participation in the workshop is free of charge.

You won’t want to miss this event if you intend to do your business in satellite navigation!
