Project News: ROSATTE partners discuss requirements
Date: 06 April 2008
On 03-04 April, the ROSATTE consortium met in Antwerp to launch some key work packages in the project related to data storage and maintenance (WP2), data exchange (WP3) and data integration (WP4) and synchronise their activities with the ongoing first work package on requirements and architecture (WP1).
ROSATTE is a 30-month project co-financed by the EC DG Information & Society & Media and coordinated by ERTICO – ITS Europe. It intends to develop the enabling infrastructure and supporting tools that will ensure European access to road safety attributes, including incremental updates. This infrastructure will facilitate internal functions as well as the supply of data to third parties, e.g. for safety relevant services. ROSATTE puts together an experimented consortium of 15 European companies and organisations consisting of public and road authorities, commercial map providers and research institutes. T
The first day of the meeting was mainly dedicated to discussing the current requirements identified so far within WP1. The architecture and requirement phase of the project is expected to be finalised around September. In this work package, road authorities and map providers are seeking to identify requirements and define an architecture to enable the access and aggregation of safety attributes in a digital pan-European interoperable infrastructure. At the end of the day, Timo Hoffmann (PTV) introduced the WP2 activities related to the development of specifications for data maintenance and delivery mechanisms and tools.
On the next day, Nele Dedene (Vlaamse Overheid) welcomed the group at the Flemish Traffic Centre. This was a good opportunity for the project consortium to gain a better understanding on the Traffic Centre’s vision, mission, structure and activities. Afterwards, Kees Wevers from Navteq presented the WP3 activities mainly aiming at developing specifications and implement tools to enable the data exchange of safety attributes between road authorities and potential data users (e.g. map providers). Final presentation of the day was delivered by Stephen T’Siobbel (Tele Atlas) who addressed WP4 activities that are about the fully automatic and timely integration of a specific set of safety attributes into pan-European digital map databases.
Some very fruitful interactions and discussions took place between the meeting participants. This event was indeed a good opportunity to bring all the partners together and synchronise the activities of four different work packages that very much related to each other. The ROSATTE partners are now in a very good position to keep on their joint team effort towards the creation of an efficient and quality ensured data chain between road authorities and commercial map providers to facilitate European access to road safety attributes.
