SpeedAlert Workshop – 31 May in Hannover

The EC-supported, ERTICO-coordinated SpeedAlert project will hold its second and final Consultation Group workshop on 31 May 2005 at the Deutsche Messe in Hannover, Germany - the same venue as the Hannover ITS Congress taking place on the following days (1-3 June). The Workshop will include presentations regarding the proposed final project results and give plenty of time for plenary discussions. 

SpeedAlert is seeking to harmonise the definition of in-vehicle speed limit information and warning systems and present the first priority issues to be addressed at the European level. The project is driven by activities taking place at a national level and its success relies on the ability to mobilise the various stakeholders and arrive at a consensus to enable large-scale deployment. Therefore, the Consultation Group was established to provide all key stakeholders in the field of intelligent speed management with the opportunity to give input on preliminary project results at two dedicated workshops.

The first Consultation Group Workshop, successfully held in October 2004, included keynote speeches from the industry, public authorities and the European Commission, as well as technical presentations of the SpeedAlert functional requirements. This second and final Consultation Group Workshop will cover the final SpeedAlert results, including:

• Functional Architecture and associated technical building blocks
• Proposed SpeedAlert implementation scenarios
• Remaining issues, and proposed recommendations for large-scale take-up of SpeedAlert systems
