Event provides lively discussion on future of TMC

The TMC Forum, held immediately before the ITS World Congress in London proved to be great opportunity to discuss the Traffic Message Channel and the future potential of broadcast traffic information.

The keynote speech for the event was given by Steven Norris, the Chairman of ITS UK and provided a springboard for in depth discussion on the challenges and opportunities of service coexistence and the potential to exploit new content.

Delegates were treated to two days of excellent TMC presentations, which culminated in a lively panel session on Service Coexistence, while the exhibition room showcased some of the latest industry developments in TMC products and services.

The social event of the Forum was a memorable riverboat cruise up the River Thames and through the heart of London. The cruise was blessed with perfect weather and delegates were rewarded with wonderful scenery and a fantastic sunset.

The TMC Forum is the focal point and workshop of the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) community. TMC is a specific application of the FM Radio Data System used for broadcasting real-time traffic and weather information. Traffic information is received silently and decoded by a TMC-equipped car radio or navigation system.

Real-time traffic and travel information can contribute greatly to increasing both road safety and efficiency. By warning drivers of congestion and accidents and allowing them to find alternative routes, traffic information applications improve traffic flow and help drivers avoid potentially dangerous situations.
