eSafety

eSafety can save your life!

Europe has a long tradition of applying technologies to support broad social issues such as safety and mobility. As part of the eSafety project, the EU has set an objective to halve the number of traffic fatalities by 2010. eSafety aims to improve road safety by using Intelligent Vehicle Safety Systems, and it has an established road map for the Europe-wide adoption of in-vehicle systems like ESP, ACC, eCall, Real Time Traffic and Traveller Information. Europe also takes an active role in regional and international ITS standard activities to advance ITS technology on the world market.

Currently, no eSafety measures or programmes are undertaken anywhere in India so far as a full-blown application or implementation project. Some pilot projects, with a small percentage of commercial vehicles have been undertaken. The European eSafety initiative will be presented to Indian authorities and industries and parallels will be drawn to Indian policy planning in the field of eSafety.

The AITS India presentation on Introducing eSafety to India provides background information towards the new EU-India cooperation.
