Electronic Road Use Charging (RUC - also known as road tolling, congestion charging, electronic fee collection) uses electronic systems of various kinds (microwave transponders, number plate recognition, GPS plus mobile radio) to identify vehicles travelling on particular roads and to charge them appropriately. This seminar will describe the technologies used and how well they work in trials and in real operational schemes, and their suitability for RUC in the UK and elsewhere.
