Future Internet for Smart, Efficient & Green Mobility - Instant Mobility

Internet for transport and mobility means more, fresher and personalised information, thus greater intelligence for planning journeys and for being aware of service changes and traffic problems as they happen.

The Instant Mobility project will demonstrate the feasibility to optimise urban multi-modal transport and mobility using the Internet to deliver real‐time information content and services from vehicles, travellers, goods and infrastructure.

The Instant Mobility platform is based on a concept for a virtual "Transport and Mobility Internet", supporting new types of connected applications for the following stakeholders:

  • multimodal travellers (using several means of transport during the same journey)
  • car drivers and passengers
  • public and other collective transport operators, including taxi fleet operators
  • truck fleet and goods transport operators
  • road operators and traffic managers

Objectives:

  • The project will define the functional and technical requirements for Future Internet (FI) tools and enablers, so that all these services will be available to any Internet-connected user, whether using a portable, vehicle-based or fixed terminal
  • These requirements will underpin a set of technical specifications for both domain-specific and FI enablers that will in turn be implemented as conceptual prototype to demonstrate the feasibility both of the underlying Future Internet technologies and the applicability of those to the domain of transport and mobility
  • The project will prepare a plan for implementing some limited real life trials and demonstrations in Phase 2, laying the foundations for realising an operational transport and mobility internet platform in Phase 3
  • Instant Mobility will also study the non-technical conditions, including security and privacy, which may support or hinder Instant Mobility services adoption
  • The project will raise awareness and promote its results towards standardisation

Instant Mobility contributes to the CooperativeMobility sector objective "Cooperative monitoring".
