Enhanced digital maps for driver assistance applications

With the aim to enable new ITS applications as well as improve or extend existing ones, the NextMAP project is evaluating the technical and commercial feasibility of enhanced map databases required for in-vehicle ITS applications.

Objectives

  • Define and assess new map requirements (geometric accuracy, additional information) for main Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) applications
  • Develop and agree on a map data model (proposed update to the geographic data files, GDF, standard) meeting ADAS requirements
  • Test and evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of new maps
  • Finalise proposal to extend the GDF standard and submission to ISO as a GDF change request document

Duration and Funding

January 2000 - December 2001, funded through EC 5th Framework IST Programme

Consortium

ERTICO (coordinator), BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Fiat Research Centre, Jaguar, Navigation Technologies, Renault, Tele Atlas
