European associations representing industry, research providers, academia, infrastructure, operators and users in the road, rail, air and waterborne transport sectors combine their voices to call for an appropriate budget share for transport research in the future Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Transport is the backbone of the European economy, being fundamental to the four freedoms of the European Union, and underpins social interaction and development throughout the Member States.

The Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications has joined the ERTICO – ITS Europe Partnership, Europe’s leading organisation supporting R&D and deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (ITS). Joining 100 Partners ranging from mobile network operators, public authorities, research institutions, services providers, suppliers, traffic and transport industry, user groups and vehicle manufactures, the Turkish Ministry of Transport has put itself at the heart of the ITS industry in Europe - and beyond.

Today, around 300 people are gathered in Brussels for the presentation of euroFOT’s findings. The €22 million European Field Operational Test (euroFOT) project, which began in June 2008 and involved 28 companies and organisations, is led by Ford’s European Research Centre in Aachen, Germany with support from ERTICO - ITS Europe.

|Helmond to continue operation of cooperative mobility service on a commercial basis – a first for Europe|

The city of Helmond, the Netherlands, has decided to continue the cooperative mobility services piloted in the successful European Union co-funded project, FREILOT. Based on the positive results of the pilot, the partners involved (the Helmond Fire Brigade, the Municipality, Van den Broek Logistics and Imtech/Peek) are in talks to work out the details of a commercial agreement. These talks mark the end phase of FREILOT, and a beginning for the commercial operation of cooperative mobility services in Europe, where cooperative services are used in daily life by key stakeholders, such as city authorities, the fire brigade and fleet operators.

The Network of National ITS Associations met in April in Copenhagen as the guests of ITS Denmark and the City of Copenhagen. Three positions in the leadership of the Network were up for election: the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and one of the Co-ordination Committee officers.

On 7 September ERTICO – ITS Europe hosted the kick-off meeting of the new SATIE project. The task of the 10-partner consortium will be to propose to the European Commission options for large scale actions for innovation and deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). The starting point of this exercise: the iMobility Forum ELSA Task Force report , and the new concept of “ITS incubators”.

Supported by the European Commission the project was officially launched on 25 September at the ITS World Congress in Stockholm, Sweden. Coordinated by ERTICO – ITS Europe, the project brings together various stakeholders who decided to join their forces under the Viajeo umbrella for a period of 36 months.They will design, demonstrate and implement an open platform to collect and process data for transport planning and travel information in cities in Europe, China and Brazil.
