RCI underway!

The EC-supported, ERTICO-coordinated RCI project officially kicked off 29 June at ERTICO. The project will address the issue of interoperability of road charging between European countries and trial and demonstrate interoperability between six key neighbouring countries - Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland - in which road charging systems already exist or will soon be widely implemented.

At the official kick-off meeting on 29 June, a group of Consortium partners started work on requirements and the strategic aspects of interoperability. This work will prepare for the project’s General Assembly in September when all RCI consortium partners will meet in Brussels. It will also be launching a dedicated project website in early autumn.

The targeted outcome of the RCI project will define how road charging transactions in Europe can be carried out with a single piece of in-vehicle equipment as well as provide its conclusions and recommendations in support of the pursuit for interoperable road charging by the European Commission.
