The SIMTAG project focuses on the safety and security aspects of multi-modal freight transport, and sets out to prove that the same technology used to improve safety and security can also enhance transportation efficiency and customer service without a net increase in costs. The project involves identification of a means of risk reduction and efficiency improvement in the intermodal supply chain, with practical demonstration of revised procedures and systems on two intermodal distribution processes.
