CEO Joost Vantomme will be speaking at a key event on autonomous mobility on 2 February 2026 in Leuven (Provinciehuis – Provincieplein 1, 3010 Leuven).
Organised by the Belgian Minister and Ministry of Transport and Mobility under the theme Autonomous Mobility: How Technology Shapes Society and Its Policies, the event, held in French and Dutch, will focus not on technology for its own sake, but on its tangible societal, economic, and legal implications for public services.
Join us at 15:00 as Joost will bring his extensive ERTICO experience to the discussion on policy and regulation, focusing on the European framework for automated driving. He will highlight ERTICO’s ongoing collaborations with the European Commission and Member States, including our contributions to the automotive action plan, ECAVA, and cross-border testbeds for shuttles, logistics, and robotaxis.
How to support the public transport community heading towards autonomous mobility?
Autonomous shuttles as part of the public transport system are no longer science fiction, and their integration into our communities raises pressing questions for urban planning, road safety, social inclusion, and policymaking.
The university city of Leuven is a true pioneer for autonomous shuttles operated by De Lijn as PTO. The opening of a regular autonomous transport line in Leuven to the public is the most visible part, but it forces policymakers to understand the changes underway and to support their institutions in anticipating and occupying the space.
During this conference, the participants will have the opportunity to:
- Discover the latest advancements in road transport automation
- Explore current initiatives across Belgium
- Understand and anticipate societal impacts
- Discuss the role of authorities in managing these changes
- Connect with field experts and stakeholders
- Attend live autonomous shuttle demos throughout the day
