María holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial design engineering from the University of Valladolid and a Postgraduate Degree on Human-Computer Interaction from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Before joining ERTICO in August 2025, María worked as a researcher on human factors in driving at Fundación CIDAUT in Spain, as technology and policy analyst on autonomous road transport at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Italy and as a senior researcher at cambiaMO Changing Mobility in Spain. She has also worked as an external expert with the European Commission, contributing to regulatory developments within UNECE WP.29 to support the safe introduction of Automated Driving Systems.
Her expertise lies within Connected and Automated Driving, User-Centred Design, Living Labs, citizen engagement methods and evidence-informed policy-making.
A native Spanish speaker, María is fluent in English and Italian, and has an intermediate level of French.
