The 17th ITS European Congress, held in Istanbul from 27–29 April, will highlight how innovation is moving beyond pilots towards large-scale, real-world implementation, shaping integrated, safe and seamless mobility across all modes. From AI-powered traffic management and cooperative automated mobility to zero-emission freight corridors and next-generation connectivity, the newly released Preliminary Programme sets a clear framework for how these developments will advance Europe’s mobility transformation.
Across more than 100 sessions, the Technical Programme outlines how intelligent transport solutions are being embedded into everyday mobility management. Discussions will focus on strengthening system resilience, improving safety outcomes, enabling coordinated network operations and accelerating decarbonisation across passenger and freight transport.
Four Strategic Pillars Guiding Each Session
Structured around four strategic topics that define the next era of transport and mobility: Safety and Resilience Through Intelligent Systems; Multimodal Mobility System Management; Smart and Sustainable Logistics in the Digital Era; and Enhancing Transport and Mobility Beyond the Road, each session will translate these topics into concrete, application-driven discussions throughout the three days.
Participants will explore advances in AI integration for mobility management, V2X-enabled infrastructure intelligence and predictive risk modelling, alongside cybersecurity, privacy in connected mobility and data-driven road intelligence for both urban and rural networks. Sessions will also address human factors, inclusive-by-design mobility, and the governance frameworks required to deploy connected and automated systems at scale.
Towards Seamless Multimodal Ecosystems
As convergence between infrastructure, vehicles and digital platforms accelerates, presentations will demonstrate how real-time data, advanced connectivity and automation are transforming the planning, operation and optimisation of mobility systems. Sessions will also examine implementation challenges and organisational models necessary to move from innovation to sustainable long-term operation.
Multimodal mobility management will be explored through integrated traffic and network operations, Mobility-as-a-Service transitions, digital traffic regulation orders, probe vehicle data services and cross-border coordination. Road user charging models, next-generation transport management powered by curated, high-quality data, and the role of data spaces in enabling new mobility services will further illustrate the shift towards coordinated, user-centric mobility ecosystems.
From Green Freight to Integrated Mobility Ecosystems
Within the field of smart and sustainable logistics, attention will focus on zero-emission truck deployment, charging infrastructure, battery-electric and hydrogen-powered long-haul transport, as well as urban micro-hubs and smart port platforms. Automation in freight corridors, energy optimisation and digital solutions that enhance supply chain resilience will highlight how electrification and data-driven optimisation are strengthening Europe’s decarbonisation efforts.
The dimension of transport beyond the road broadens the perspective to maritime mobility, inland waterways, innovative aerial services and integrated air mobility. Discussions on software-defined vehicles, next-generation connectivity including 6G, and cloud-edge platforms will demonstrate how cross-domain digital ecosystems are enabling seamless movement across modes.
Engage. Exchange. Accelerate.
By integrating these topics throughout the Programme, the Congress ensures that innovation is examined not only from a technological standpoint, but also through operational realities and policy frameworks that enable implementation at scale.
