ERTICO projects bring smarter mobility to European Mobility Week

From 16 to 22 September, the European Mobility Week has brought cities, communities and mobility stakeholders together around this year’s theme, “Mobility for Everyone: Intergenerational Fairness”. 

For ERTICO, this theme resonates strongly with our work to connect innovation, technology and people in the development of smarter, safer, and more sustainable mobility. Through our Partners, EU-funded projects and innovation activities, we contribute to solutions that can make urban mobility more accessible, connected and adaptable, from intelligent transport systems and shared mobility to digital services and new approaches to inclusive transport.

The European Commission’s flagship campaign highlights the need for transport systems that are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to people’s needs throughout their lives, while also considering the needs of future generations. 

As cities across Europe put sustainable mobility into practice during the week, ERTICO shed the light on the projects and innovations helping shape mobility for everyone. 

Four metaCCAZE Trailblazer and Follower cities took part in activities throughout the week. In Limassol, Cyprus, visitors discovered the vehicles and e-bikes developed by WeeDRIVE and NextBike. In Kraków, Poland, a programme of cycling activities led up to a car-free day, while Milan put citizens at the heart of the conversation through MobiDays and an exhibition exploring how public participation can shape urban mobility. In Poissy, France, visitors met the metaCCAZE team and discovered the mobility technologies and innovations being developed for the city.

Three CORESpaces Living Labs also connected with citizens during the week. In Limassol, project partners hosted an interactive co-design workshop, inviting participants to share ideas for safer, greener and more pedestrian-friendly Green Routes. In Tartu, Estonia, the city encouraged greener travel through free bus journeys and guided walking tours, offering residents a different way to experience their city. In Thessaloniki, Greece, CORESpaces presented two urban mobility measures being explored through the project and invited citizens to share their views through a co-design questionnaire, helping inform the development of future solutions.

In Trikala, Greece, one of CAMBER’s five pilot sites, project partners brought citizens, local stakeholders and project partners together to explore local mobility challenges and co-create ideas for safer urban travel. The programme combined discussion with hands-on activities, including an exploratory cycling tour and an interactive session using the CAMBER data dashboard. This connected local experiences with the project’s data driven approach to road safety.

EvoRoads also brought its work to Milan’s MobiWeek through project partner CEFRIEL, which presented the project during the event “Digitalisation as an opportunity for integration and evolution”. The event highlighted how digitalisation can support more connected and integrated approaches to urban mobility.

From inclusive design and accessible services to connected technologies and new mobility solutions, these initiatives demonstrate how innovation can support better journeys today while helping build a mobility system that works for generations to come.
